A single session (1 hour) for an introduction to the world of public access.
SCTV staff will explain what membership is all about, including
responsibilities (equipment use, and behavior), benefits, and any other
aspects involved with being a member of SCTV. Every Member and
future member is required to attend this session.
Basic Camera Operation And Basic Field Production:
Basic knowledge of how to use a camcorder to videotape your event.
Step by step breakdown on camcorder use, and do’s and don’ts of
camera operations.
Training will cover the following:
Battery and AC use and applications (1 HR.)
Tape loading
Basic Auto settings for immediate recording
Camera movement (do’s and don’ts)
Panning left to right
Zooming in and out
Tripod use, mounting, adjusting for smoothness
Don’t over torque fittings
Field production (things to look out for) (1 HR)
Making it look more professional (Framing a shot)
Audio awareness (Monitoring)
Setting variables and controls
Backlighting
Various settings beyond Auto
Basic Concepts of Editing: (1-3 Hours)
Basic knowledge of editing footage together for productions, by using
iMovie, a MAC based software program. You will learn the basic ins and
outs of iMovie and how to produce your own video programs.
Turning on the MAC and iMovie 08
Choose the proper edit program

Choose 4 X 3
Project Name
Signal Input (Plugging in the Camera)
How & Where to plug in the camera w/tape
Or use a MiniDV deck for same results
Click on Import
Assign where it is going
Create new event, title it, hit OKAY
Process will automatically begin, Image Capture
Now Drag the image Icon into the project pane/area (you’ll see it)
This is the timeline work area:
Where you put it together in the order you want and
Add transitions and titles (you’ll see how easy it is in iMovie 08)

For transitions we…
Find and open transition window and pick transition
then we place the transition effect between the clips
where we want them and apply them
For Titles we go to T on the Icon bar
and pick our title type and
Place on our desired clip,
Box comes up and apply the title
We preview, show fonts and controls

Okay, you’re happy with your project, corrections are done, everything looks good, Well guess what? We’re Done, (well, almost)! Now what? Now we have to get our movie out of the computer by exporting it to the next program, iDVD, another handy MAC program. This allows us to burn the project to a DVD.

While still in Edit mode we go to: SHARE
Export Movie
Export as: Name of project
location of project (where on the drive)
size to export
Export
Project saves itself to the hard drive. There, all done.
But how do we get it out? Now we, iDVD it!
iDVD: Burning your project DVD from the hard drive storage media (1 Hour)
Title DVD
Choose DVD theme from Menu
choose movie: your project: just drop in place
Hit burn: (insert DVD carefully to avoid scratching
surfaces)
Everything is automatically done from this point
Gently remove finalized project DVD and enjoy
Intermediate Studio Production (Multiple Phases)
Phase 1 Control Room:
Step 1: Control Room Power Up
FIRST, All Monitors ON, Broadcast Pix and Rack monitors
Turn on Broadcast Pix main frame in rack
Turn on all record decks in rack
Turn on all CCU, remote camera controls, to bars, studio
cameras on
Step 2: Turn on the Broadcast Switcher Program by:
click on B’Pix Icon-double click
wait for the program to fully open (takes a moment)
Next: go to Window: floating layout templates (1st one)
go to SCTV Primary
Turn on speakers and audio board (Control Room Monitors)
Last step: press “Join the Show” top right on the Broadcast Pix

We will assist in logo/names/title placement for you.
